Wyndham City has reached an exciting milestone in the K Road Cliffs and Road Reconstruction project, with the construction contract now officially awarded for the K Road reconstruction between Duncans Road and the iconic K Road Cliffs.

Work on this transformative Connecting Wyndham project is set to begin in the coming weeks, with BILD Infrastructure to completely rebuild the 2.8-kilometre section of K Road between Duncans Road and K Road Cliff, with sealed shoulders.

The project will deliver a range of upgrades including an improved intersection at Main Drive to boost access to the vibrant tourism precinct, a shared user path for pedestrians and cyclists, and enhanced connections to existing bus stops.

Construction is expected to be completed in the second half of 2026.

Wyndham City Mayor, Cr Mia Shaw, said this vital upgrade would deliver easier and safer access to and from Werribee South, including the Werribee South tourism precinct.

“The K Road reconstruction is a significant investment in the future of Werribee South, aimed at enhancing safety and accessibility for all road users,” Cr Shaw said.

“Meanwhile, the upgraded intersection at Main Drive will improve access to and from major attractions such as the Werribee Open Range Zoo, Werribee Mansion, the National Equestrian Centre, and the Victoria State Rose Garden.”

The K Road reconstruction has been staged to minimise traffic disruption and access to properties, the Werribee South market gardens and the Werribee South tourism precinct.

During construction, there will be partial closures of K Road in stages, with traffic management in place and one lane open at all times to ensure continued access to and from Werribee South.

For major events, the contractor will provide full two-way access to the Werribee Park precinct accommodate the additional traffic and will make suitable changes to avoid traffic congestion.

“No-one likes sitting in traffic, so please allow extra time when travelling to and from Werribee South as we deliver these essential works,” Cr Shaw said.

The K Road reconstruction is the second stage in the K Road Cliffs and Road Reconstruction project, with work on the first stage – which includes a new cliff-top walking path, viewing platforms, a staircase leading down to the river, interpretive signage, and drainage works – nearing completion.
